In Mali, former Wagner PMC mercenaries were ambushed by Tuareg rebels. Between 20 and 80 Wagner mercenaries were killed. This is one of the largest losses of Russian mercenaries in Africa. Helicopters that flew to assist the ambushed Wagner mercenaries were destroyed. The crew of at least one helicopter died, and the crew of the second reportedly survived.
The exact number of mercenary losses is unknown. Some sources claimed that at least 20 people were killed in the fighting. According to other sources, at least 82 Wagner mercenaries died.
In one of the videos showing the bodies of the dead, Nikita Fedyanin (nicknamed the “Five Hundredth”), the author of the Grey Zone Telegram channel associated with Wagner PMC, was identified among the deceased. His death was also reported by the neo-Nazi group DSHRG “Rusich.”
On Z-channels, there is mourning, tragic hand-wringing, and a search for a Ukrainian connection. After all, it is somewhat disgraceful that well-trained mercenaries were defeated by Tuaregs in sandals.
These well-trained fighters were lured into an ambush. They ended up in a kill zone. And now everyone suffers from such a defeat. It is clear that it is more honorable to die at the hands of NATO soldiers or Ukrainian special forces than to lose so miserably to Bedouins in slippers.
But now to another point. Every day in the war with Ukraine, the losses are so great that the number of dead in Mali is just a small fraction of how many Russian servicemen are killed and wounded every day. But for some reason, this is not talked about. Military correspondents are silent, Z-patriots are silent. State propagandists, under the command of dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, are compelled to stay silent. As soon as anyone dares to mention the real number of casualties in the Special Military Operation (SVO), they are immediately labeled an enemy of the people and a traitor.
The daily losses are exponentially higher than the one day of ambush in northern Mali. But it is not customary to talk about this. There is a lot of commotion and mourning about the situation in Mali, but more silence about Ukraine. However, the corridors filled with the wounded in military hospitals and now civilian hospitals speak of the terrible losses of personnel and equipment.
