For over a month, the FBI in the U.S. has been dealing with Russian propaganda organizations operating within the country. Most of the criminal cases—money laundering, sanctions evasion, and interference in U.S. elections—are focused on the media organization RT. However, not only the leaders of RT and structural divisions of this holding have come under U.S. Treasury Department sanctions and criminal prosecution, but also individual U.S. citizens involved in the propaganda.
In essence, this is a major dismantling of the entire information network that was established in the U.S. and funded by the federal budget of the Russian Federation. Enormous sums, amounting to hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars, have been wasted.
This shows that the people in the Kremlin are utterly unteachable. The experience of Yevgeny Prigozhin’s organizations, which interfered in U.S. elections and later faced American sanctions, apparently taught no one anything. And now again, it’s the same mistakes. They consider themselves immortal and Americans as stupid.
The Americans have repeatedly said they would not allow interference in their own elections. But it seems the Kremlin decided they were superheroes and would face no consequences. Now, it turns out there will be consequences. Kiselyov and Simonyan can only rage and rant about the suppression of free speech, but it won’t help. RT employees will go to prison for a long time. Maria Zakharova from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also in distress, foaming at the mouth as she talks about repression against the media. But all this wailing and lamentation will no longer help.
Listening to official statements from U.S. authorities, it’s clear this story won’t end here. Similar sanctions will be imposed by U.S. allies. In America and other countries, there will be processes—first arrests, then confiscation of propaganda assets. Property arrests in the U.S. have already occurred, and after convictions, this property and real estate will be confiscated.
Naturally, Simonyan understands that after such failures, no matter how much she puffs herself up now, her career will go downhill. At the very least, much less money will be allocated to RT. This is what concerns her most.
