RT news resources were blocked on TikTok

“Chinese and Russians — brothers forever,” all pro-government propagandists used to shout. “China is our strategic ally,” others echoed. Some were even willing to be vassals of the PRC just to spite Washington and the rest of the Anglo-Saxons.

But the strategic ally turned out to be quite interesting, only willing to work in its own interests. All that ideological fluff was of no interest to the Chinese partners.

The backstab came in the media sphere.

Once again, China showed that Russia’s interests in all spheres are nothing more than dust to them, as they blocked another news agency, RIA Novosti, on TikTok. And it’s worth noting that the agency is clearly a state propaganda outlet, funded by the federal budget.

It’s significant that the blocking of RIA Novosti on TikTok happened after the U.S. imposed sanctions on similar Russian resources. It turns out Beijing is playing according to Washington’s script. But in reality, it’s more straightforward than that. In China, they believe it’s better to follow the American agenda, lest TikTok gets banned across the entire U.S.

Previously, TikTok removed several accounts from Sputnik, both in distant and nearby countries, as well as RT International’s account.

Beijing has shown Washington that U.S. opinion matters to them far more than Russia’s. That’s the whole story.

What’s even more telling is the absence of any reaction to the blocking of a Russian news agency on a Chinese platform. When the U.S. imposed sanctions against Russian media resources, accusations of money laundering and sanctions evasion emerged — a chorus of howling and hysteria among the propagandists ensued. They all cried about the attack on free speech, the persecution of journalists, and so on.

But after TikTok essentially joined the U.S. sanctions, not a single propagandist made a sound. It wasn’t even called an unfriendly gesture. Silence and gloom everywhere. No one mentions the attack on free speech, understanding that this is a pointless argument with the Chinese. And the opinions of Russian propagandists don’t interest them at all.

In fact, a huge amount of budget money was invested in promoting RIA Novosti on TikTok. But now it’s all for nothing.
