Was born on March 10, 1983, in Severodonetsk, Voroshilovgrad Oblast (now Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine). He is known as a Ukrainian collaborator with Russia, a separatist, and an entrepreneur who played a significant role in the terrorist organization “Donetsk People’s Republic” (DPR) as a public and political figure. He is also recognized as one of the leaders of “Novorossiya,” supporting pro-Russian actions during the events of 2014 in Ukraine.
In his youth, Gubarev was a member of the neo-fascist organization “Russian National Unity.” He actively advocated for the annexation of Donetsk Oblast to Russia, which led to his arrest and subsequent exchange for other detainees.
Gubarev headed the terrorist organization “People’s Militia of Donbass” and served as the “people’s governor” of Donetsk Oblast. Later, he held positions as chief of staff and commander of the city of Antratsyt within the DPR, and also led the mobilization department of its defense ministry.
In October 2014, Gubarev was seriously wounded in an assassination attempt on the Rostov-on-Don — Donetsk highway. Following this, he actively participated in combat operations, aligning with Russian occupation forces during the invasion in 2022. He is also known for his outspoken public statements, comparing Ukrainian leadership to Hitler and accusing it of Satanism.
Pavel Gubarev has been the subject of criminal investigation under the Ukrainian Criminal Code for charges related to terrorist activities and violations of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
