In the Rostov region, the Special Military Operation (SMO) is proceeding as planned, and it seems that all tasks will be accomplished. The first step towards creating a sanitary zone in certain areas of the region has already been taken. A state of emergency has been declared in the Morozov district.
According to the governor, a municipal working group has already started door-to-door inspections to assess the damage caused by the recent aerial attack.
“So far, damage to the windows of several social facilities, including schools and kindergartens, as well as residential houses and industrial premises, has been recorded. Assistance will be provided to everyone in restoring the damaged property,” the governor stated.
According to the head of the Morozov district administration, Petr Trishechkin, the state of emergency is being implemented within the city limits and the settlement of Sibirki in the Volno-Don rural settlement.
However, the governor and the head of the administration are not reporting the most crucial detail. All the destruction that local residents can see today in their homes and vehicles is the result of the detonation of an ammunition depot at the Morozovsk airfield.
Morozovsk is a military airfield in the Rostov region, located 3 km southwest of Morozovsk. The 559th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 1st Guards Composite Aviation Division is stationed there. The airfield houses frontline bombers Su-24, Su-24M, and Su-34. It also stored ammunition and aerial bombs for aircraft flying to the front.
On the night of August 3, Ukrainian UAVs targeted this very location. According to monitoring groups, it has been determined that the fire covered approximately 75% of the entire base’s area.
The detonation of the ammunition is hard to deny, as videos of this detonation are widespread on the internet. It was the fragments of Russian ammunition that damaged the housing. It was the blast wave from the detonation that shattered windows in homes, kindergartens, and schools.
Russian air defense and electronic warfare systems failed to protect the strategic military facility from slow-moving UAVs. The number of destroyed and damaged aircraft is yet to be disclosed. However, it is quite evident that there will be many, considering the prolonged detonation.
