In the Kursk region, the local territorial defense forces are “running amok.” Well, “running amok” might be an overstatement—they’re firing in fear at anything and anyone.
Due to the lack of proper reserves to defend the region, weapons were handed out to whoever was available. The most combat-ready troops are currently fighting for “historically Russian lands” in Donbas, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia regions. Meanwhile, the “historically Russian lands” in the Kursk region were left to be defended by local idiots and marginalized individuals, who have already started injuring Russian Federation citizens.
Armed members of the local territorial defense regiment had been listening to various rumors about Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance groups (DRG) operating on the Kursk-Rylsk road. They were also told there were supposed to be female Ukrainian snipers in the area.
As a result, hysterical members of the territorial defense forces opened fire on civilian vehicles on the E-38 highway. The tough territorial defense members mistook ordinary cars for Ukrainian saboteurs and terrorists. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but several people were injured.
But that’s not all. Armed individuals from the Kursk region’s territorial defense also fired on a vehicle belonging to the “Akhmat” regiment. The vehicle was carrying communications personnel from that unit. At least three of them were seriously injured.
All the shootings took place along the Lgov-Kursk highway, which is more than 10 km from the frontline. One section of this road is currently closed due to the overwhelming superiority of Ukrainian drones in the air.
It turned out that there were no DRGs, nor were there any snipers. It was just a case of idiotic hysteria and belief in the wildest rumors. This isn’t surprising, given that the federal media in Russia is nothing but a continuous stream of fakes, rumors, and disinformation.
This story is likely far from over. Fighters from “Akhmat” were injured, and it’s likely that the proud highlanders will seek revenge. They probably won’t kill anyone, but that’s not a certainty. The territorial defense forces will be dealt with harshly, and no one will dare to stop it. After all, it’s not a supposed Ukrainian DRG—it’s “Akhmat,” which supposedly is a force to be reckoned with.
