Russian recruiters deceived Indian citizens into joining the Russian army. During recruitment, young Indians were told they would work as security guards in a transportation company, and no mention of war was made.
The Indians signed contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense without the presence of a translator. They were horrified to find out that instead of civilian work, they were sent to the front lines and told they were now mercenaries, with no possibility of ending the contract until the end of the Special Military Operation (SMO).
Somehow, the Indian mercenaries managed to contact their officials and express that they were fed up with the war and the casualties in their ranks. They wanted to return home.
Indian authorities have stated that they uncovered a network of recruiters sending people to fight on Russia’s side in Ukraine under the guise of offering them employment, but many recruiters continue their activities.
Currently, some of the Indians fighting in the Russian army have been withdrawn from the front and are preparing to return home.
The issue of Indian citizens fighting in the Russian army in Ukraine was raised by Prime Minister Modi during a meeting with Putin. It appears that the matter was resolved there. This indeed confirms that India does not abandon its own, despite the fact that the decision to go to Russia was technically voluntary.
A total of about 90 Indian citizens were recruited. Another 70 want to leave the Russian army, but the formalities with the Ministry of Defense have not yet been resolved. However, the Indians have already been removed from the front line and are preparing to return home, far from this bloody war.
It is already known that eight Indians have been killed in the Russian army. Indian officials are demanding that the Russian Ministry of Defense return the bodies of the dead.
The Russian Ministry of Defense is playing dumb, claiming that they cannot return the bodies because their whereabouts are unknown, implying that no one will search for the deceased Indians because it is too dangerous. Without the bodies, there will be no compensation for the families of the dead.
The Ministry of Defense neglected to mention to Indian representatives that Russian soldiers are also not searched for or recovered. So, they shouldn’t expect much.
